I think the best way to explain this is the reason Cell mentioned his "core" surviving was because even though he could regenerate with just a tiny fragment of him existing, because his core survived, that's why he went through that zenkai, got stronger and his core remembered his Perfect Form. Just a theory. If his core was destroyed but a single cell from, say, his arm survived... he probably would have regenerated, but, just back to Semi-Perfect Cell.
No, Cell himself states that the organ is located inside his head. The Dubed English anime happens to leave this well-known plothole out.

Go read the japanese manga or the anime.. it's present in both.

Cell clearly states that his nuclei that controls Regeneration is located in his head... Goku blew his entire upperbody clean off

^^I noticed that as well and had the same question. It got to the point where Cell basically had Majin Buu's regeneration capabilities.

has anyone ever stopped to think that maybe Trunks just bought his sword somewhere or something? There's nothing really special about it.

Well it did manage to slice Frieza into a shishkebab so it must've been packing more power than your average blade. Hell even Zelda's sword couldn't pull off that ****.

I don't believe in power levels after the Frieza Saga. :D
Now, there's an idea.

Wow i never knew that until now.

But then in saying that, in the manga Goku did actually use his instantaneous Kamehameha on Cell and completely blew his head off his shoulders.
So does that mean the manga has a plot hole also?

Yes it does make sense but then what about all the talk about Gohan having hidden power?
Hmm imagine if Cell was killed by Goku's Kamehameha. That would be a different ending.
